The Award is promoted by the women network with a tourist vocation called "UMBRE" (United Marketing for Business and Regional Experience) and was created with the aim of celebrating the commitment and capacity of the regional tourism sector to make a holiday in Umbria a unique and valuable experience.
The project of the Equestrian Centre "La Lacciara", managed by instructors Johan Ramires and Stella Bacchio at Poggiovalle Tenuta Italiana, has been among the best and most innovative experiences in the Umbrian territory.
Guests are guided to discover the old craft of the herdsman on horseback (also called Buttero) on the Umbrian hills that lie between Città della Pieve and Fabro. The training phase of the horse to cooperate with humans in livestock management is described.
It is an experience for both adults and children, offering a dual opportunity. On the one hand, you can enjoy the show offered by the butteri, the foal taming and the management of the herd of calves in Maremma. On the other hand, you have the opportunity to learn the workhorse riding, having as saddle the barder or the cowl (used by the Italian army) and the horse led with a bridle that is with only one hand so you can hold in the other hand for other needs, as for example to hold the mazzarella (a wooden stick used by the buttero to open and close gates while remaining in the saddle).
All this is done in full respect of the animals and within the Poggiovalle estate, a perfectly preserved natural oasis.
